Modeling of rate-based congestion control schemes in cognitive radio sensor networks

Abstract: a b s t r a c tPerformance evaluation of transport layer protocols in cognitive radio sensor networks (CRSNs) is useful to provide quality-of-service for real-time reliable applications. This paper develops an analytical framework to model the steady-state sending rate of collecting cognitive radio (CR) sensors in rate-based generic additive-increase multiplicative-decrease (AIMD) and additive-increase additive-decrease (AIAD) congestion control schemes. Evolution process of sending rate is modeled by a discre… Show more

“…In addition, when the PU arrival rate is equal to the PU departure rate, this state is considered to be a "medium PU activity" state [10]. According to these definitions, the PU activities (3, 1) and (5, 1) belong to the low PU activity state, the PU activities (1, 1), (3,3), and (5,5) belong to the medium PU activity state, and the PU activities (1, 2), (1,3), (1,4), (1,5), and (1,6) belong to the high PU activity state.…”

“…Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks (CRSNs) as an important type of Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) are wireless sensor networks in which sensors are implemented with cognitive radio capability. Since the frequency spectrum has been saturated due to the coexistence of different technologies and standards, the provision of opportunistic spectrum access for sensors in CRSNs is an important task . In such networks unlicensed cognitive radio users (ie, sensors) or Secondary Users (SUs) can use the frequency spectrum that belongs to some licensed Primary Users (PUs), if they do not cause harmful interference with PUs .…”
