Abstract:In this paper, we propose a formulation for modeling macroscopic traffic flow using a modified speed-density relationship. The flow model consists of a nonlinear hyperbolic system of conservation laws. The proposed modification distinguishes between acceleration and deceleration by assuming a different equilibrium velocity for a given traffic density based on whether a platoon of vehicles is accelerating or decelerating. We examine the appropriateness of this modification to two prominent traffic flow models i… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
