The dynamics of land cover changes on Sulawesi Island have been analyzed to assess their impact on water regulation ecosystem services. This research aimed to spatially map the temporal evolution of these services from 1990 to 2022, employing a comprehensive dataset of natural landscapes, vegetation, and land cover patterns. Findings indicate that the island initially maintained a high capacity for water regulation, predominantly classified as high or very high in 1990. However, a significant decline was observed, with the island shifting to predominantly medium classes of water regulation services by 2022. Central and South Sulawesi experienced the most significant decreases in service capacity, while Southeast Sulawesi and Central Sulawesi exhibited some improvement in recent years. The spatial analysis elucidated the interplay between environmental changes and the provision of ecosystem services, emphasizing the profound influence of anthropogenic land cover alterations. The loss of vegetated areas and the increase in agricultural and urbanized land have been linked to the decrease in water regulation services, with direct implications for flood risk, water availability, and watershed health. The study highlights the importance of ecological carrying capacity as an indicator of regional sustainability, reflected in the fluctuating levels of water regulation services. The research concludes that the downward trend in water regulation services necessitates a strategic focus on restoration and conservation efforts to ensure the long-term viability of environmental and human systems. Policymakers are urged to consider these findings in the development of land cover policies, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining ecosystem service levels to support the island's environmental carrying capacity and resilience. Future work should continue to monitor these trends and investigate the efficacy of conservation interventions, thereby contributing to the global understanding of land cover impacts on ecosystem services.

The mangrove ecosystem is a vital feature in a coastal area, playing a critical role in carbon sequestration beneath the soil. Carbon preservation capacity varies among different species of mangrove. Thus, by quantifying the number of mangrove species in a given area, the volume of carbon sequestered can be estimated. Satellite imagery is highly effective for gathering such data across vast territories. In this study, we present an evaluation of mangrove species abundance across a large coastal area using Landsat satellite imagery. We employed machine learning algorithms to classify species based on spectral field observation data to achieve this. These algorithms were trained individually and ensembled to enhance prediction performance. There are 466 models generated in a two-hour training phase. After assessing these models, we identified that a stacked ensemble consisting of Deep Learning, two Distributed Random Forests, a Generalized Boosting Model, a Generalized Linear Model, and Extreme Gradient Boosting algorithms has the most superior predictive accuracy. The model achieved a mean accuracy value of 95% when tested on observation data. After applying the best model to the satellite data, our results indicate that Rhizophora Apiculata and Excoecaria Agallocha are the two most abundant mangrove species in the study area, covering 17.71% (19502.37 Ha) and 10.49% (11549.79 Ha), respectively.

Jakarta Bay is shallow water which is used for various activities, currently experiencing environment, soil,and sediment degradation. Jakarta Bay experienced rapid development, population growth, increased economic activity and utilization of coastal resources. The development of Jakarta Bay is carried out to balance land necessity and overcome the problem of land subsidence through reclamation and construction of sea dikes. Ecosystem services arethe contribution of various interrelated ecological structures and functions, mangrove ecosystems provide services as an important part of the carbon cycle. Mangroves use CO2 for photosynthesis and store it in Biomass and sediment stock. Mangrove ecosystems in Jakarta Bay have been degraded and deforested due to land conversion for settlement, facilities, and other activities, in line with the increasing population. The calculation of the service value of mangrove ecosystems is limited to economic valuation and descriptive account, geospatial modelling has not been widely carried out, this has caused widespread and temporal unknown data on ecosystem services. The Coastal Blue Carbon geospatial modelling used in this study requires land use classification data input based on the interpretation of Landsat satellite's images and global carbon deposits in mangrove ecosystems while carbon prices are based on Social Cost Carbon (SCC), Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and International Voluntary Market Price (IVMP). This study produced a map of the dynamics of carbon stock, sequestration, emissions, accumulation and net present value of carbon. The output of these maps is expected to be a referencefor sustainable mangrove management, coastal area planning optimization with mangrove ecosystem protection so it can be part of climate change mitigation efforts in Jakarta Bay.
