Modeling fuzzy data with RDF and fuzzy relational database models

Abstract: The Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a flexible model for representing information about resources on the Web. As a World Wide Web Consortium recommendation, RDF has rapidly gained popularity. With the widespread acceptance of RDF on the Web and in the enterprise, a huge amount of RDF data is being proliferated and becoming available. In real‐world applications, there are many practical situations where the descriptions of objects are accompanied by a degree of uncertainty. In an open Web environment, i… Show more

“…More importantly, the fuzzy object‐oriented databases are very suitable for storing some important concepts in the fuzzy RDFS such as fuzzy classes, instances, properties, and fuzzy class/property hierarchies. The present paper is different from Ma and Yan at two major aspects. First, the fuzzy RDF(S) model proposed in this paper includes both fuzzy RDF data and RDFS schema rather than only fuzzy RDF data in Ma and Yan .…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, this is only one effort in mapping fuzzy RDF to databases. As shown in Ma and Yan, the fuzzy relational database model is not suitable for the fuzzy RDF model due to its graphical structure. More importantly, only the fuzzy RDF model is handled in Ma and Yan and the fuzzy RDFS is not considered.…”

“…The authors formalized the annotated language, the corresponding deductive system and address the query answering problem. More recently, Ma et al applied a new fuzzy RDF data model, which annotated the object component of triples instead of all three components of triples because it was a very common case that the fuzziness of triples occurs only in the object component. In addition, they investigated how to formally map fuzzy RDF data to relational databases.…”

“…And a general fuzzy RDF graph model that combines the fuzziness of vertices label value and edge is proposed in Ma et al 35 The fuzzy RDF(S) graph model proposed in Fan et al 36 covers both fuzzy RDF and fuzzy RDFS. Considering that it is a very common case that the fuzziness of triples occurs only in the object component, in Ma and Yan, 37 only one element of triples (eg, object) is annotated with a membership degree in [0, 1]. To query the fuzzy RDF, a query language named FSAQL is proposed in Bahri et al 38 In Manolis and Tzitzikas, 39 a novel model is proposed for browsing and exploring sources, in which fuzzy RDF is the representation framework.…”
