Modeling and simulation of VOCs removal by nonthermal plasma discharge with photocatalysis in a continuous reactor: Synergetic effect and mass transfer

Abstract: International audienceThis paper deals with photocatalysis (TiO2 + UV), nonthermal plasma (NTP) and their combinations. These processes have been widely studied for isovaleraldehyde (Isoval) treatment. Isoval removal, selectivity of CO2 and CO, and ozone formation are investigated in order to evaluate the performance of the combined process. The results show that the performance of the process has enhanced and a synergetic effect is observed. On the other hand, this work aims at investigating kinetic modeling … Show more

“…However, the CO 2 selectivity of Plasma+TiO 2 +UV system is between that of the plasma system alone and that of TiO 2 +UVsystem. The same phenomenon was also observed by Assadi et al [ 161 ] in the degradation experiment of isovaleraldehyde. They found that the degradation efficiency of Plasma+TiO 2 +UV system on isovaleraldehyde was 5–15% higher than that of the sum of independent plasma and TiO 2 + UV system, whereas the CO 2 selectivity was 20% lower than that of TiO 2 +UV system.…”
