Modeling and Simulation of Very High Spatial Resolution UXOs and Landmines in a Hyperspectral Scene for UAV Survey

Abstract: This paper presents methods for the modeling and simulation of explosive target placement in terrain spectral images (i.e., real hyperspectral 90-channel VNIR data), considering unexploded ordnances, landmines, and improvised explosive devices. The models used for landmine detection operate at sub-pixel levels. The presented research uses very fine spatial resolutions, 0.945 × 0.945 mm for targets and 1.868 × 1.868 cm for the scene, where the number of target pixels ranges from 52 to 116. While previous resear… Show more

“…For instance, in [ 14 ], thresholding, unsupervised classification iterative self-organizing data analysis technique (IsoData), supervised classification spectral angle mapper (SAM), mixture-tuned matched filtering and Fisher linear discriminant are used for the asphalt classification. Spectral angle mapping was used in [ 10 ] as well. Torti et al Cortesi et al [ 7 ] use a random-forest classifier to detect whether a given object floating on a river surface is plastic.…”

“…UAV technology has developed rapidly in the past two decades and is now widely used in geological prospecting [1][2][3], remote sensing [4][5][6], unexploded ordnance (UXO) detection [7][8][9], and environmental monitoring [10][11][12]. Among these applications, UAV aeromagnetic surveys have emerged as a popular branch of airborne geophysical technology due to their convenient deployment, low cost, intelligence, and high precision.…”
