Modeling and simulation of grid-connected photovoltaic distributed generation system

Abstract: Compared to the traditional energy resources, photovoltaic (PV) system that uses the solar energy to produce electricity considered as one of renewable energies has a great potential and developing increasingly fast compared to its counterparts of renewable energies. Such systems can be either stand-alone or connected to utility grid. However, the disadvantage is that PV generation depended on weather conditions. Thus there is also a need for developing control techniques for three phase grid connected PV syst… Show more

“…The PV array produces DC power which is converted to AC power via a three phase inverter. The output of the inverter gives AC power which is in turn filtered into a sinusoidal output using an LC filter [5]. The PV system is connected with an AC network at medium voltage level via a step up transformer.…”

“…Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT), inverter controllers and others. Although some PV models are available in the literature [3] [4] [5], these models do not provide a fully integrated and detailed model for EMT-type and real time simulation, therefore they did not fulfill the requirements for the studies in the IDE4L project. Hence, there was a need to develop a detailed PV model which could be used for EMT-type system studies in real time using OPAL-RT's technologies, which in turn requires to develop the model using MATLAB/Simulink.…”

“…To fulfill the load demand, direct connection of the load to the solar array leads to over sizing the solar panels thus increases the cost of the entire system. To solve the problem, a DC/DC converter with an automatic duty cycle control is usually inserted between the solar panel and the load [3]- [4] and [5]. The MPPT computing system modifies the duty cycle of the main converter switch and implicitly the input impedance of the converter until the system reaches the maximum power point.…”

“…They have been integrated successfully with energy storage systems for many industrial applications such as electric vehicles and photovoltaic energy systems [7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. The inclusion of UC can be very useful to maintain stability in electrical power systems with distributed generation by enhancing the output from lead-acid batteries and intermittent renewable resources.…”
