Modeling and simulation of a nanoscale optical computing system

Abstract: h i g h l i g h t s• We propose a method to build computing systems with nanoscale optical devices.• An Optical Logic Element (OLE) is proposed as a basic compute unit.• We demonstrate optical coupling between optical fibers and chromophores.• We build and validate a SPICE model for OLEs, and analyze various logic circuits.• OLE power-delay product is 2.5× lower and area density is 100× higher than CMOS. a r t i c l e i n f o b s t r a c tOptical nanoscale computing is one promising alternative to the CMOS pr… Show more

“…The stationary probability equations for the preprocessing queueing system are identical to those for the receiving queueing system when ρ 2 = λ/µ 2 = λD/τ < 1. Therefore, the mean request number R 2 and the mean response time T 2 in the preprocessing queueing system can be obtained by applying formula (4).…”

“…an off-the-shelf projector and a camera mounted on a programmable motion platform [3]. Pang et al presented a layered optical logic element which used wavelength division multiplexing for its inputs and output, and implemented optical nanoscale computing [4]. In addition, Jin et al proposed the principle and architecture of a ternary optical computer(TOC), which expresses information in three optical states(horizontally polarized light, vertically polarized light, no intensity light) [5], [6].…”

“…Like any other wave, directionality of electric field vector of TSW forms its nature. Near field vector of Surface electromagnetic waves (SEWs) play a key role in applications of them in various fields, including data communication 16 , optical computing 17 , quantum information processing 18 , biosensors 19 , and biomedical imaging 20 . Many of these applications particularly rely on the transfer of energy or information between adjacent elements through near-field interactions.…”

“…Process and applications to use recombining DNA in the design computer-aided design presented by Jain [11]. The principle of self-assembly of DNA and the theory of resonance energy transfer was integrated into the implementation of digital logic gates [12, 13, 14]. Over the last few decades, researchers have been looking for a powerful material to store data in large quantities in tune with developments and needs.…”
