Modeling and simulation of a digital control design approach for power supply systems

Abstract: Electronic designers need to model and simulate system features as close as possible to its effective behaviour. Moreover, today, electronics systems are often composed of mixed analog and digital components. The increasing complexity has led to the use of different simulation softwares, each one specific for a particular level of abstraction: mathematical, circuital, behavioural, etc. In order to simulate the entire system these softwares should work together: co-simulation is necessary for digitally controll… Show more

“…Modeling each subsystem is key to simulate the entire system as closely as possible to its effective behavior. Integrating each subsystem model in a unique simulation environment is a fundamental step [17][18][19][20][21]. Complex, non-linear systems can be modeled by analytical or empirical approaches.…”

“…The switching nature of the devices used permits development of specialized algorithms which allow a considerable reduction in simulation time compared to general purpose simulation algorithms [19]. The development of such systems needs powerful simulators specific for each level of abstraction [20]. The control algorithm is often described at a functional level using hardware description language, as VHDL or Verilog.…”

“…A tradeoff between pressing and conflicting requirements on power supply design is brought about. New challenges arise thus pressing both academic and industrial research towards innovative solutions [3][4][5][6]. Several applications are heavily affected by efficiency issues.…”
