Modeling and Optimization of New Flocculant Dosage and pH for Flocculation: Removal of Pollutants from Wastewater

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, a new ferric chloride-(polyvinylpyrrolidone-grafted-polyacrylamide) hybrid copolymer was successfully synthesized by free radical polymerization in solution using ceric ammonium nitrate as redox initiator. The hybrid copolymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Response surface methodology (RSM), involving central composite design (CCD) matrix with two of the most important operating variables in the flocculation p… Show more

“…1 a,b,c and d indicated a correlation between the designs predicted points and the actual points. The closer correlation coefficient is to unity, the better the model predicts the response [23]. The plots converge within the boundary lines which further suggest that the predictions using the model equations could give accurate designs.…”

“…The resulting equations of the response surface in the form of second-and third-order polynomials make it possible to calculate the consumption of reagents with high accuracy. A similar approach was reported in the publications by other authors [16][17][18] regarding the wastewater from specific industries. Typically, the dependent variable is the degree of wastewater purification, rather than the flocculant consumption.…”

“…There are several response models that can be derived, such as linear, interactive, quadratic and cubic models (Dawood et al, 2013). From the experimental data the quadratic model was suggested to represent the correlation between the coded variables and the response.…”
