Modeling and optimization of membrane lifetime in dead-end ultra filtration

Abstract: a b s t r a c tIn this paper, a membrane lifetime model is developed and experimentally validated. The lifetime model is based on the Weibull probability density function. The lifetime model can be used to determine an unambiguous characteristic membrane lifetime. Experimental results showed that membrane lifetime shortens if the average membrane fouling status increases. The lifetime modeling results are then used to determine the economic lifetime of membranes. Subsequently, the economic lifetime of a membra… Show more

“…There are several methods for washing and cleaning of ceramic membrane, reverse wash is one of the important ways in the industry in which treated wastewater entered to the membrane reversely (from outside to inside) again by a membrane, and with the help air compressors, the air pressure was equal to 5 bars. This measure causes a significant part of the blocked pores of the membrane is opened again and reach to initial performance [1] , [2] , [3] , [4] , [5] , [6] .…”

“…48 The integrity of membranes can be checked with pressure hold tests or bubble tests. 49 In what follows, the 3-stage membrane preparation methodology in Table 1 is followed and metrics in Tables 2-5 are applied. HSPs used for solvent shortlisting first need to be explained as well as the experimental setups of membrane preparation and characterization.…”

“…Ultrafiltration (UF) and microfiltration (MF) membranes have been widely used for water treatment since the 1980s [1][2][3]. The early stage membranes tended to be UF with a fine or medium pore size.…”
