Modeling and Measurement of a Zeroth-Order Resonator and a Composite Right-Left-Handed Transmission Line in Coplanar Technology

Abstract: Abstract-This paper presents a coplanar composite right-left handed zeroth-order resonator (CRLH CPW ZOR) and a coplanar composite right-left handed transmission line (CRLH CPW TL). These devices are realized using an elementary cell designed in a coplanar waveguide configuration on alumina substrate. Additional lumped elements are carried out with an interdigital series capacitor and a short-circuited stub inductor as a shunt. The CRLH CPW ZOR is fabricated and analyzed using equivalent circuit modeling and t… Show more

“…Many different configurations of wideband planar monopole configurations, such as rectangular, elliptical, triangular, and hexagonal, have been developed for ultrawideband (UWB) applications due to their low profile, ease of fabrication, and convenient integration with RF circuits [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. One of the main challenges of the UWB monopole antennas is the instability of the antenna boresight gain over all the frequencies within the bandwidth.…”

“…Zeroth order resonator has zero electric length and hence infinite guided wavelength at a certain finite microwave frequencies with very compact size [7]. The gap coupled approach has the advantages of harmonic suppression and size reduction [38][39][40][41]. They can be applied in filter applications [42][43][44][45].…”

“…The zeroth-order resonant antenna has a monopolar radiation pattern, which is similar to that of the traditional monopole antenna; thus, it is suitable for adoption on wireless devices requiring an omnidirectional radiation characteristic. Studies have presented zeroth-order resonant antennas based on microstrip technology [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] and a coplanar waveguide structure [10][11][12][13][14]. In those designs, the interdigital capacitator or the couple between the adjacent patches provided the left-handed series capacitance.…”
