Modeling and Analyzing the Effect of Frequency Variation on Weak Grid-Connected VSC System Stability in DC Voltage Control Timescale

Abstract: The effect of frequency variation on system stability becomes crucial when a voltage source converter (VSC) is connected to a weak grid. However, previous studies lack enough mechanism cognitions of this effect, especially on the stability issues in DC voltage control (DVC) timescale (around 100 ms). Hence, this paper presented a thorough analysis of the effect mechanism of frequency variation on the weak grid-connected VSC system stability in a DVC timescale. Firstly, based on instantaneous power theory, a no… Show more

“…The power conversion stage is taken into account through an average model where only the passive components of the circuits are considered, as in [13,25]. On the contrary, independent of the specific application, small-signal analysis allows us to achieve dynamic models of the power system for fair stability assessment in the case of weak grids [26,27]. In this paper, an ad-hoc state-space dynamic model of a combined electromechanical system is developed.…”

“…In Reference [13], it is studied the impact of phase-locked loop (PLL) on impedance modeling and resonance in a doubly fed induction generator RES with a parallel compensated weak grid. In Reference [14], a thorough analysis of the effect mechanism of frequency variation on the weak grid-connected VSI system stability in a dc voltage control timescale is presented. In Reference [15], the stability of multiple DERs that are connected in parallel to a weak ac grid is analyzed.…”
