Modeling and Analysis of Windowed Synchronous Algorithms

Abstract: Sliding window algorithms are fundamental parts of each image processing system. Especially those belonging to the class of static algorithms offer various possibilities for analysis and optimization. Only if this potential is exploited, a high level synthesis of such algorithms will lead to efficient implementations.Such an analysis relies on an efficient representation by a welldefined model of computation. It must abstract important properties of sliding windows as for instance the relation between input an… Show more

“…In this section, we summarize a number of recent efforts beyond MDSDF (see Section 1) that have focused especially on multidimensional dataflow modeling. Keinert et al propose an extension of MDSDF, called windowed synchronous dataflow (WSDF) [7]. WSDF allows modeling of sliding window algorithms for a multidimensional applications.…”

“…For example, 2DSDF is very suitable for modeling image processing systems where actors process images and 2-dimensional data. Other examples of efforts in this area include well-behaved dataflow [31] and windowed synchronous dataflow [41].…”

“…The modeling of computer systems and algorithms is useful to gain an insight to the designs as well as to analyze the inherent properties of the systems [2,3,4,6,7,10]. For example, the fusion of models of artificial neural network (ANN) and fuzzy inference systems (FIS) are employed in many complex computing systems.…”

“…In the image processing systems, the modeling and analysis of signals are performed by designing the sliding window algorithms. Researchers have proposed the Windowed Synchronous Data Flow (WSDF) model to analyze the sliding window algorithms [7]. The WSDF is constructed as a static model and a WSDF-balance equation is derived.…”
