Abstract-This paper presents the application of Newton-based methods in the time-domain for the computation of the periodic steady state solutions of microgrids with multiple distributed generation units, harmonic stability and power quality analysis. Explicit representation of the commutation process of the power electronic converters and closed-loop power management strategies are fully considered. Case studies under different operating scenarios are presented: grid-connected mode, islanded mode, variations in the Thevenin equivalent of the grid and the loads. Besides, the close relation between the harmonic distortion, steady state performance of the control systems, asymptotic stability and power quality is analyzed in order to evaluate the importance and necessity of using full models in stressed and harmonic distorted scenarios.

With the wide application of non-linear loads and the large-scale access of distributed energy generations based on power electronics equipments, power quality problems in the distribution network are increasingly serious with new characteristics. Further in-depth research is of great significance in theory and practice. This paper provides an overview of power quality analysis, compensators, and control technologies under the new situation of smart grid. It focuses on the topologies and control methods for power quality conditioners, especially new characteristics of power quality and applicable control technologies in microgrids and distributed power plants. Finally, trends and prospects of power quality control technology are introduced, which is important to achieve security and efficient operation of the smart grid.

The use of LCL filters in pulse width modulation voltage source converters is a standard solution for providing proper attenuation of high-order grid-current harmonics. However, these filters can cause the undesired effect of resonance. This paper proposes an active damping strategy with harmonics compensation. It can alleviate the harmonics around the resonance frequency caused by the LCL filters. The proposed strategy is attractive since it is simple, does not depend on grid parameters and does not increase the number of sensors. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed active damping strategy.
