Model Studies for the Separation and Identification of Element 107 (Bohrium, Bh): Ion Exchange and Precipitation Experiments with Tc, Re, Nb and Ta Nuclides from HNO3/HF containing Aqueous Solution

Abstract: Ion exchange on cation exchange resins from diluted HNO3/HF solutions proved to be a suitable method for the separation of the group 7 elements Tc and Re from the group 5 elements Nb and Ta. To achieve a good separation the columns were heated to 75 °C. The Tc/Re fraction then was precipitated onto a nucleopore filter in form of tetraphenylarsoniumperrhenate (PhiAsReOJ adding small amounts of Re as carrier. The separation procedure was completed after 10-15 s.

“…88 Zr and 92 Nb prepared by irradiation of Sr and Y (natural isotope abundance) with α particles (initial energy 35 MeV, He + beam current ∼ 10 μA, exposure time 4 hours) on U-200 accelerator (FLNR). Production and radiochemical puriˇcation of 88 Zr were performed as described in [6] and for 92 Nb by analogy with [7].…”
