Model simplification and optimization of a passive wind turbine generator

Abstract: In this paper, the design of a ''low cost full passive structure'' of wind turbine system without active electronic part (power and control) is investigated. The efficiency of such device can be obtained only if the design parameters are mutually adapted through an optimization design approach. For this purpose, sizing and simulating models are developed to characterize the behavior and the efficiency of the wind turbine system. A model simplification approach is presented, allowing the reduction of computatio… Show more

“…In 2014, a review of notable technical as well as environmental impacts of wind farms, wind power resource assessment techniques, control strategies, and grid integration techniques, were conducted [15]. A comparative investigation was conducted using a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control [16] between the optimized configurations of passive wind turbine generators with that of the active ones that operate at optimal wind power.…”

“…Joselin Herbert, et al, (2014) reviewed different aspects of significant technical issues for the wind farms such as Wind power resource assessment techniques, Environmental impacts, Grid integrations techniques, Control strategies, Off-shore wind turbine technologies, Hybrid energy techniques, Hydrogen production, Wind energy feed-in tariff, Modelling techniques on wind turbine components, Performance prediction and improvement techniques, Cost and economic of wind energy production, and Generators influences on wind energy production [5]. Sareni, et.al, (2009) investigated optimized configurations for the passive wind turbine generators that match with the behaviour of active wind turbine systems operating at optimal wind power by using an MPPT control device [231]. Arthur Bossavy, et al, (2013) present an emergent attention in short-term wind power projecting tools.…”

“…In this part, the DSM based selection method of decision variables is applied to a multi-physics analytical model of a High Speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (HSPMSM) dedicated to optimal design for an aeronautic application. This model is derived from a previous PMSM model devoted to ground applications [9,10]. The modelling has been extended in order to take all features related to the PMSM behavior at high speed operation.…”
