Model of transport nonuniversality in thick-film resistors

Abstract: We propose a model of transport in thick-film resistors which naturally explains the observed nonuniversal values of the conductance exponent t extracted in the vicinity of the percolation transition. Essential ingredients of the model are the segregated microstructure typical of thick-film resistors and tunneling between the conducting grains. Nonuniversality sets in as consequence of wide distribution of interparticle tunneling distances. PACS numbers: 72.60.+g, 64.60.Fr, 72.80.TmThick-film resistors (TFRs) … Show more

“…͑11͒ has been formulated for a bond-percolation regular network in which the bonds have probability p of being occupied by a string of n nonoverlapping spheres. 62 In this case, in fact, Eq. ͑11͒ is the exact distribution function for spheres placed in a one-dimensional channel, 63 and the resulting bond conductance distribution is proportional to g −␣ n where ␣ n =1− /2/͑a n − ⌽͒ and a n is the mean interparticle distance for a bond occupied by n spheres.…”

“…, while in reality the value of t might be as high as 7 for various compositions of glass and doping conditions [14]. Additionally, the value of C C is essentially lower than the theoretical estimation in many cases or percolation threshold disappears.…”
