Model for the Viscosity and Thermal Conductivity of Refrigerants, Including a New Correlation for the Viscosity of R134a

Abstract: We present modifications to an extended corresponding states (ECS) model for thermal conductivity and viscosity originally developed by Ely and Hanley (Ind. Eng. Chem. Fundam. 1981, 20, 323−332). We apply the method to 17 pure refrigerants and present coefficients for the model and comparisons with experimental data. The average absolute viscosity deviation for the 17 pure fluids studied ranges from a low of 0.56% for R236ea to a high of 5.68% for propylene, with an average absolute deviation for all fluids of… Show more

“…A previous publication (5) described the extended corresponding states model for viscosity and thermal conductivity implemented in REFPROP, which is based on the earlier publications by Ely and Hanley (6,7). This method is also discussed in additional publications (8)(9)(10)(11)(12); here we will present the coefficients and comparisons with data; the reader is referred to earlier publications for details on the methodology.…”

“…In the present study, transport properties have been evaluated according to ECS theory presented in [12,13]. Following this approach, viscosity and thermal conductivity are accurately evaluated for a reference §uid which is nitrogen (N 2 ), and whose properties are taken from [20].…”

“…Appropriate EoS and transport property relations for mixtures of real §uids must be used. The Groupe Europ‚ een de Recherches Gazières (GERG) [11] model has been selected for the EoS, whereas the Extended Corresponding States (ECS) models [12,13] have been used for the transport properties. In the following, the numerical and thermophysical models are presented.…”
