Model-Driven Simulation of Elastic OCCI Cloud Resources

Abstract: Deploying a cloud configuration in a real cloud platform is mostly cost- and time- consuming, as large number of cloud resources have to be rented for the time needed to run the configuration. Thereafter, cloud simulation tools are used as a cheap alternative to test cloud configuration. However, most of the existing cloud simulation tools require extensive technical skills and do not support simulation of any kind of cloud resources. In this context, using a model-driven approach can be helpful as it allows d… Show more

“…Despite all that, the OCCI standard 12 is defined for an interface of a single cloud installation. Thus, the CSP has no way to express a standard interface cloud resources which are required from the other ones since the federation is not the basic operation of the CSP 13 . This vendor lock‐in can be disabling and upsetting since clients look for switching to alternative vendors in case an unfavorable deployment occurs. Conflicting requirements and competitive market: Many clients are fond of a certain service supplied by many CSPs.…”

“…The utilization of different cloud providers with OCCI is also shown in the study of Al-Dhuraibi et al [124] which adds the capabilities to manage the elasticity of cloud applications. Furthermore, as part of the OCCIWare project, an extension for the simulation of cloud applications is introduced in [125]. The implementation is built around CloudSim [126] and allows modeling data centers to simulate resource utilization and pricing strategies for cloud deployments.…”
