Model-driven Game Development

Abstract: Model-driven game development (MDGD) introduces model-driven methodology to the computer game domain, shifting the focus of game development from coding to modeling to make game development faster and easier. The research on MDGD is concerned with both the general model-driven software development methodology and the particular characteristics of game development. People in the MDGD community have proposed several approaches in the past decades, addressing both the technology and the development process in the… Show more

“…This methodology was purposed to raise the level of the abstraction of the game development, especially the prototype from the game. Model-driven Development (MDD) is a promising direction, which has shown improvements in software productivity in various software domains (Zhu & Wang, 2019). Game as a software is particularly appropriate for MDD, because:…”

“…127-144 135 where models need to be developed and a successful ACG that meets most of the requirements requested by the user needs to be developed. Model-Driven Game Development (MDGD) [167] presents a structure of two essential parts. The platform independent models (PIM), the platform specific model (PSM), moving to the final part in the generation of the final source code, to perform the first evaluation of a prototype.…”

“…Lately, work has been done to apply or evaluate MDD approaches in domains such as embedded software [3], game development [55,62], and even to automate the migration of legacy models of software components [51]. In a survey with MDD practitioners from different industrial sectors, Whittle et al [60] reported that some form of MDD is practiced widely across a diverse range of industries.…”
