Model development of work roll wear in hot strip mill

Abstract: Abstract. This paper, based on the analysis of the main factors(specific roll force, mean roll surface temperature, irregular edge wear and contact arc length) affecting roll wear, designed a new work roll wear model, the test data shows that the model can more accurately reflect the work roll wear, can be on-line prediction of work roll wear. The roll wear curve, including constant wear and irregular edge wear, presents a box shape, and the reasons also are showed in this paper. The top roll wear and bottom r… Show more

“…Note that roll wear model analysis found in the literature were usually carried out only considering a few rolling campaigns [8,[10][11][12]. Thus, this database composed by a larger number of rolling campaigns with distinct strip rolled schedules enables a more reliable evaluation of roll wear model predictions.…”

“…Therefore, the most part of the wear models available on the literature consist of contact-mechanic based equations assuming simplified relations between some working conditions. This kind of equations is often defined by considering that few material or process parameters, such as roll hardness [7], strip surface temperature [8], roll-bite contact length [9], roll diameter [10,11] or roll shape [12], are particularly important on the wear process [13].…”

“…Byon et al 25 performed a single-stand reversible pilot groove rolling test as well as a rolling test in an actual rod mill, and the effect factors were studied. Liu et al 26 developed a model of work roll wear in hot strip mills. Because of the high hardness, low temperature, and high pressure, the position corresponding to the steel edge got more severe roll wear than other parts.…”

“…Liu et al designed a new work roll wear model based on analyzing the main factors affecting roll wear. [ 14 ] Yang et al researched the changing law of the work roll thermal contour, and realized the online prediction of the thermal contour of the work roll. [ 15 ] Roll profile measurement can be done on a roller grinder.…”
