Model comparison is a prerequisite task for several other model management tasks such as model merging, model differencing etc. We present a novel approach to efficiently compare models using programs written in a rule-based model comparison language. As the comparison is done at the model element level, and each element needs to be traversed and compared with its corresponding elements, the execution of these comparison algorithms can be computationally expensive for larger models. In this paper, we present an efficient comparison approach which provides an automated rewriting facility to compare (both homogeneous and heterogeneous) models, based on static program analysis. Using this analysis, we reduce the search space by pre-filtering/indexing model elements, before actually comparing them. Moreover, we reorder the comparison match rules according to the dependencies between these rules to reduce the cost of jumping between rules. Our experiments demonstrate that the proposed model comparison approach delivers significant performance benefits in terms of execution time compared to the default ECL execution engine.CCS Concepts: • Software and its engineering → Domain specific languages.

Conflict management techniques for model merging: a systematic mapping review

Model merging conflicts occur when different stakeholders aim to integrate their contradicting changes that are applied concurrently to update software models. We conduct an extensive systematic mapping study on conflict management techniques and relevant collaboration attributes to the versioning and merging models from 2001 to the middle of 2021. This study follows the standard guidelines within the software engineering domain. We analyzed a total of 105 articles extracted from an initial pool of more than 1800 articles to infer a taxonomy for conflict management techniques. We use this taxonomy to classify existing approaches to understand characteristics, shortcomings, and challenges on conflict management techniques in merging models. It also provides a solid foundation for future work in this area. We show that syntactic conflicts are the most studied type and that the top three popular conflict detection techniques are constraint violation, change overlapping, and pattern matching. We observe the lack of a comprehensive state-of-theart comparison between academic or industrial tools, as well as the need for real-world case studies. Finally, we show that recent trends have focused on online collaboration, where teams of stakeholders work on large-scale models.

Wearable devices emerged from the advancement of communication technology and the miniaturization of electronic components. These devices periodically monitor the user's vital signs and generally have a short battery life. This work introduces ODIN, a model for optimized vital signs collection based on adaptive rules. Analyzing vital sign values requires preciseness, so the adaption of these collected data allows a personalized analysis of the user's health condition. The comparison with related works indicates that ODIN is the only model that presents context-aware-adaptive vital signs collection. The implementation of a prototype allowed to perform three evaluations of ODIN. The first evaluation used simulations in different scenarios, with the adaptive approach increasing battery life by 119% through the analysis of input data compared to data collection without adaptivity. The second evaluation applied the prototype to a database of real physiologic data, which allowed reduced data collection when the user has regular vital signs. This reduction optimized battery consumption by 66% compared to collection without adaptivity. Finally, the third evaluation applied ODIN through an Arduino and a heart rate monitor (Polar H7). The average power saved across mobile devices was 21%. Consequently, the adaptive strategy presented in this work allows the optimization of computational resources during the collection and analysis of vital signs. This optimization occurs because of the reduction in energy expenditure and the reduction in the amount of data that needs to be collected and stored.
