Model Based Support for Life Cycle Management of I&C Systems

Abstract: This article describes a method, which helps to cope with aging and obsolescence of long running computerized systems (Instrumentation and Control systems, I&C). In this method, a model of the observed system is created. The model is based on the Fault Tree method. The Fault Tree is extended to work with lifetimes of the system components. The aim of the model is to recommend which part of the system should be considered for modernization or replacement.
