Model-Based Reasoning Methods within an Ambient Intelligent Agent Model

Abstract: Abstract. Ambient agents react on humans on the basis of their information obtained by sensoring and their knowledge about human functioning. Appropriate types of reactions depend on in how far an ambient agent understands the human. On the one hand, such an understanding requires that the agent has knowledge to a certain depth about the human's physiological and mental processes in the form of an explicitly represented model of the causal and dynamic relations describing these processes. On the other hand, gi… Show more

“…The basic specification of th reasoning model can be expressed by the representation leads_to_after(I, J, D) (belief that J after duration D). Here, I and J are both information elements (i.e., they may correspond to any concept from Figure 2, e.g., gaze_at (1,2) 0.68).…”

“…The software agent uses the dynamical system model as described in Section 2.1 as an internal simulation model to generate new attentional states from the previous ones, gaze information and features of the object, with the use of a orward in time) as described in [2]. “…To provide automated support for human functioning in various domains [2], it may be important to also monitor the humans states of desiring. Desires [13] are often considered cognitive states with the function of focusing the behaviour by constraining or indicating the options for actions to be chosen.…”

“…The aim of developing such a model is both to analyse adaptive dynamics of interacting cognitive and affective processes, and to provide a basis for an ambient agent that supports a person; cf. [14,16,2]. Evaluation criteria include in how far the model shows emerging patterns that are considered plausible, and the possibility to use the model in model-based reasoning within an ambient agent; cf.…”
