Model-based optimization of ultrasonic transducers

Abstract: Numerical simulation and automated optimization of Langevin-type ultrasonic transducers are investigated. These kind of transducers are standard components in various applications of high-power ultrasonics such as ultrasonic cleaning and chemical processing. Vibration of the transducer is simulated numerically by standard finite element method and the dimensions and shape parameters of a transducer are optimized with respect to different criteria. The novelty value of this work is the combination of the simula… Show more

“…If the fre- quency is increased, the production of cavities in the liquid is decreased and therefore the sonochemistry effect is less effective. [28][29][30][31][32] To demonstrate the scope of the ultrasound-assisted method, several 2-chlorobenzoic acids and different primary or secondary amines were used. The results are shown in Table 1.…”

“…The objective functions have to be adequately defined depending on the characteristics of the transducer that are expected. One can define objective functions in order to optimize the bandwidth, the transmitted energy, the maximum amplitude of the transmitted acoustic wave, the input energy, the focus of the wave and so on [59][60][61][62].…”

“…In general, the most widely used is the sandwich piezoelectric ceramic transducer, also known as the Langevin piezoelectric ceramic transducer. Sandwich piezoelectric transducers have the advantages of high efficiency, good heat dissipation performance, and easy changes of operating frequency and performance parameters [9,10,11,12,13]. Sandwich piezoelectric transducers are valued by researchers.…”
