“…Na + /K + ATPase transfers three Na + ions out of the cell in trade for two K + ions, exploiting ATP hydrolysis. PLTX binding to the α-β ATPase heterodimer changes the transmembrane pump into a nonspecific monovalent cation channel, leading to a consistent ionic imbalance at the cellular level [ 25 , 26 ]. The channel formed by PLTX binding seems to be a consequence of ATPase conformational changes leading to a loss of pump gate control and uncoupling of the ion transport.…”
