Mobility-Aware Seamless Handover With MPTCP in Software-Defined HetNets

Abstract: In this paper, the problem of vertical handover in software-defined network (SDN) based heterogeneous networks (HetNets) is studied. In the studied model, HetNets are required to offer diverse services for mobile users. Using an SDN controller, HetNets have the capability of managing users' access and mobility issues but still have the problems of ping-pong effect and service interruption during vertical handover. To solve these problems, a mobility-aware seamless handover method based on multipath transmissio… Show more

“…Magoarou [26] focused on obtaining spatial location of user through unsupervised learning mechanism for practical handover and resource scheduling considering impact of small-scale fading. Tong et al [27] used software defined network in HWNs for addressing mobility and user resource allocation issues. They modelled multipath-based communication design using three phase such as prediction user location using echo state network, network selection using fuzzy analytic hierarchical process, and finally handover execution using multipath transmission protocol [28] [28].…”

“…Because of these, we extended our measurements to the reference MPTCP multipath environment (see e.g. [12], [13], [14], [15], [16]). In his case, too, the results of the measurements were much weaker than expected, but he definitely performed better than the MPT.…”

“…MPTCP can improve bandwidth utilization, increase network throughput [15][16][17] and remain reliable [18][19][20]. However, MPTCP consumes extra energy by opening multiple network interfaces at the same time during use.…”
