Mobile phone-based interventions for improving adherence to medication prescribed for the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in adults

Abstract: There is low-quality evidence relating to the effects of mobile phone-delivered interventions to increase adherence to medication prescribed for the primary prevention of CVD; some trials reported small benefits while others found no effect. There is low-quality evidence that these interventions do not result in harm. On the basis of this review, there is currently uncertainty around the effectiveness of these interventions. We identified six ongoing trials being conducted in a range of contexts including low-… Show more

“…102 In addition to face-to-face interventions, there were increasing efforts to evaluate the effects of mobile phonebased interventions. With respect to CVD primary prevention, a Cochrane systematic review and meta-analysis 103 concluded that there is low quality and inconclusive evidence that mobile phone-based interventions might improve medication adherence and/or have favourable effects on outcomes such as BP or LDL-cholesterol. 103 With respect to secondary prevention, a Cochrane systematic review 104 evaluated mobile phone text messaging for patients after acute cardiac events.…”

“…12 Mobile health has been proposed as a way to increase communication and engagement in healthcare delivery. 13 There is growing evidence that mobilebased reminders and interventions may be useful in a variety of health behaviour contexts, from medication adherence in cardiovascular disease, 14 to contraception use 15 and smoking cessation. 16 To our A randomised controlled trial of SMS reminders for routine asthma care in an Australian general practice knowledge, however, the only published studies to date that have examined the use of SMS technology in asthma management have been limited to evaluations of the use of SMS technology for improving asthma medication use 17 and reducing appointments.…”

“…Многочисленные исследования показывают, что цифровые средства повышения приверженности эффективны [3,[10][11][12] при различных нозологиях, включая артериальную гипертензию и ишемическую болезнь серд ца, хотя и не слишком значительно [13]. Для некоторых данных недостаточно [14], но по крайней мере, явного вреда выявлено не было. Этого достаточно, чтобы сказать, что приложения можно рекомендовать к использованию пациентам, испытывающим проблемы с приверженностью.…”
