Mobile IPv6 Vertical Handover Specifications, Threats, and Mitigation Methods: A Survey

Abstract: Internet users have grown substantially over the last decade, especially following the emergence of mobile technology. Most Internet connections nowadays are accessed using mobile devices in order to stay connected all the time and everywhere. Owing to the limited coverage of such access points as well as base stations, mobile devices are required to handover connectivity if there is a move to other locations. Horizontal handover is conducted when the movement is within the same network. Otherwise, there must … Show more

“…Figure 3 presents the workflow of the proposed methodology. The design of the discussed scheme was optimized to be applied in 5G network architectures where both Fog and Cloud infrastructures are available, while the implemented signaling combines messages of both the IEEE 802.21 Media Independent Handover (MIH) [42] and the IETF Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) [43] standards. Furthermore, it should be noted that the proposed scheme can be used for the mobility management of both pedestrian and vehicular users.…”

“…In particular, manufacturing-based companies are focusing on changes to upgrade their general factories to smart factories. Various research attempts are made on existing manufacturing processes, such as Cyber Physics System (CPS) [1,2], robotics, 3D printing, edge computing, and cyber-security technologies [3]. Because these key technologies are applied across all manufacturing areas, innovations are emerging that dramatically increase the competitiveness of manufacturing.…”
