In this study, a fast, reliable and cheap method is suggested for the recognition and evaluation of the marks of a multiple-choice test on the images that are obtained via the scanning of the optical forms printed on a standard sheet of paper with an ordinary scanner. This method is called the recognition of optical marks and is the process of capturing the data on the multiple-choice forms. The application of recognition has been developed by using the software language, Python and the image processing library, OpenCV. When the answer sheet is loaded in the application, incorrect answers are marked as red while the correct ones as green and with the calculation of the correct/incorrect answers and blanks, the result is printed on the optical form image. This method is economical, fast and quite successful. As a result of three examinations in Konya with the participation of 35.250 students, 105.750 optical forms were scanned with a scanner. The recognition success has been calculated as 99,76 %. The empirical studies have shown that the suggested system is more successful than the conventional optical mark recognition systems regarding accuracy, reliability and performance.

Ülkemiz eğitim sisteminde sınavlar önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu sınavlar genellikle çoktan seçmeli sınavlar olarak uygulanmaktadır. Çoktan seçmeli sınavlar optik form ile daha hızlı okunabilmektedir. Optik formlar zamandan tasarruf sağlarlar ancak bunun yanında bazı dezavantajlarda mevcuttur. Bunların en başında optik okuyucu cihazlarının maliyetinin yüksek olması gelmektedir. Yüksek maliyete sahip optik okuyucu cihazları her eğitim kurumunda bulunmamaktadır. Bu projede bunun önüne geçmek için bu çalışmayla birlikte önerilen mobil optik okuyucu uygulamasının alt yapısı ve geliştirme adımlarına değinilecektir. Önerilen mobil optik okuyucu uygulaması ile eğitimciler telefonlarını kullanarak optik formları okutma imkânına kavuşacaklardır. Bu sayede optik okuyucu cihazına gerek kalmamaktadır. Telefon kamerası yardımıyla okunan optik formlar çeşitli görüntü işleme teknikleriyle uygun formata getirilmektedir. Uygun formata gelen görüntüler üzerinden işaretli şıkların tanınması sağlanır. Tanınan şıkların konumlarından elde edilen soru sırası bilgisi ile sınav sonuçları hesaplanmaktadır. Sınav sonuçları değerlendirilerek öğretmen ve öğrenciye istatiksel veriler sunulmaktadır. Bu uygulamanın alt yapısında görüntü işleme teknikleri için Python OpenCV kütüphanesinden yararlanılmaktadır. Önerilen uygulama Dart ve Flutter programlama dilleri ile geliştirilmektedir. Bu programlama dilleri çapraz platformda çalışma imkânı sağlamaktadır. Bu sayede işletim sisteminden bağımsız birçok mobil cihazlar üzerinde verimli bir şekilde kullanımı sağlanacaktır. Bu gibi katkıların yanında geliştirilen uygulama test sınavlarının sonuçlarını yüksek bir oranda doğru hesaplamaktadır. Yapılan deneyler incelendiğinde hesaplama başarımı %90 ile %95 arasında ölçülmektedir. Doğru ışığın sağlanarak optik formların sisteme verilmesi halinde test sınavlarının sonuçları yüksek oranda doğru çıkmaktadır.

Multiple choice exams appear as the most common method used to measure student success in education systems in Turkey and around the world. Evaluation of multiple choice exams is usually done by optical form reading systems using expensive optical forms and optical scanners. The most important reason for using optical form reading systems is to reduce the error rate to zero in the evaluation process. In this study, an alternative system is proposed for the evaluation of multiple choice exams. The designed system is a web-based software with high accuracy on evaluating that contains optical form design module, session planning module and evaluation module. The form in which the designed template will be printed on A4 paper instead of a special optical form and the system in which standard scanners will be used instead of the optical scanner, uses the image processing algorithms in the OpenCV library in the evaluation process which is an intermediate library developed in C#. The proposed system is coded to run in parallel to speed up the evaluation process. In order to determine the performance of the proposed system, the optical forms filled by 208 students studying at Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, Department of Computer Engineering were evaluated. The accuracy rate of the system has been determined as 99.97%. It has been determined that 1 optical evaluation time, calculated by dividing the total time obtained by running in parallel, by the number of evaluated optical forms, varies between 1.7 seconds and 15 seconds, depending on the scanning resolution.
