A new Cp*Ir‐catalyzed C–H arylation of 1‐isoquinolinone and 2 pyridones to afford 6‐phenylpyridin‐2(1H)‐ones and 3‐phenylisoquinolin‐1(2H)‐ones by using arylsilanes is described in this paper. This protocol offers significant synthetic advantages, including mild reaction conditions, good functional group tolerance, a wide range of substrate applicability, and a concise approach to the core structure of protoberberine alkaloids. Several important experiments on mechanism studies were conducted to reveal the possible process of this Cp*Ir‐catalytic cycle.

A facile rhodium-catalyzed tandem reaction of two molecules of acrylates with two molecules of 2phenylpyridines involving sequential CÀ H activation, Michael addition, [12 + 2] cycloaddition and oxidative aromatization has been described. A series of indolizino [3,4,5-ab] isoindole compounds were efficiently afforded in good yields by the formation of two CÀ C bonds, two C=C bonds and one CÀ N bond.

Rhodium(III)-catalyzed C6-selective CÀ H 3-oxoalkylation of 2-pyridones was developed with commercially available allylic alcohols as the 3-oxoalkyl sources. In this reaction, the excellent site selectivity was controlled by the 2-pyridyl directing group on the nitrogen of the pyridone ring. This reaction features good functional group tolerance and the generation of 6-(3-oxoalkyl) pyridones in moderate to good yields.
