Abstract: Orofacial pain is among the most common chronic pain conditions and can result from temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) drive degeneration of TMJ tissues and likely mediate pain in TMJ disorders given their role in nociception.
