As2Te3 glass under high hydrostatic pressure: Polyamorphism, relaxation, and metallization

Abstract: High-precision measurements of the specific volume and electrical resistivity of As 2 Te 3 glasses are performed under hydrostatic pressures up to 8.5 GPa. A smooth transformation and logarithmic relaxation of the density is observed at pressures higher than 1 GPa. The softening of the effective bulk modulus and the relaxation rate have a sharp maximum at 2.5 GPa, which is

“…However, if pressure is relieved before local reconstruction occurs, slow rarefaction should be observed just as in the case of the ∆T scenario. This slow recovery has indeed been observed in a number of high-pressure studies [8,9,13].…”

“…29 In the case of As 2 Te 3 , diffraction data showed the presence of a FSDP in the amorphous phase. 73 However, it appears from our results that while a small shoulder for k ranging from 1 to 1.4 Å −1 is present in the case of the FPMD model of AsTe 3 (see panel in Figure 3), the ML-GAP model does not show any distinguishable feature around 1 Å −1 . The absence of a relevant FSDP reveals that the IRO is very limited in amorphous AsTe 3 .…”

“…In addition, bulk forms of group‐15 sesquichalcogenides with generic formula A 2 X 3 (A=As, Sb, Bi; X=S, Se, Te) have been widely investigated owing to their distinguishable thermoelectric properties, and 3D topological insulator character ,. Among these, several types of phases of bulk Arsenic Telluride (As 2 Te 3 ) have been widely studied . Its unique physical characteristics such as structural transformation by heat and pressure,, high power factors and low thermal conductivity, and variety multicomponent amorphous/glass‐ceramics system allowed to be used in the application of thermoelectric,,,, threshold and memory switching,, and pressure‐induced metalization .…”
