Cu63nuclear relaxation in the spin-Peierls compound CuGeO

Abstract: We have measured the temperature dependence of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T 1 and the nuclear spin-spin relaxation rate 1/T 2G due to indirect nuclear coupling for 63 Cu NQR in the spin-Peierls ͑SP͒ compound CuGeO 3 , which undergoes the SP transition at T SP ϳ14 K, using a single crystal. We perform a combined analysis of 1/T 1 and 1/T 2G on the basis of theoretical results recently obtained for the Sϭ1/2 one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet ͑1DHAF͒ model to clarify the spin dynamics. Co… Show more

“…Onsite hyperfine couplings A Ќ and A ʈ are determined in the principal axes of the g tensor: A x ϭA y ϭA Ќ and A Z ϭA ʈ in CuGeO 3 . 25 In 1DHAF, there are only two channels of magnetic relaxation: those induced by excitations with qӍ0 and qӍ. We thus write…”

“…On the other hand, the longitudinal component (I z i I z j ) of the SN interaction can survive even at low temperatures, which is characterized by the antiferromagnetic spin-spin correlation function in the ground state (see §IV) [17,18,19]. This interaction, however, is short-ranged because the spin-spin correlation function decays exponentially as a function of the distance, so that the interaction can reach only a few lattice points [20].…”
