B+Ds*+γand

Abstract: The decays B + → D * + s γ and B + → D * + γ can be used for an extraction of |V ub |. When the b and c quarks are nearly degenerate the rate for these modes can be determined in terms of other observed rates, namely BB mixing and D * → Dγ decay. To this end we introduce a novel application of heavy quark and flavor symmetries. Although somewhat unrealistic, this limit provides us with a first estimate of these rates.12.15. “…Other investigations in that direction were e.g. performed by Grinstein and Lebed in 1997 [63] and 1998 [64] and by Grinstein in 2001 [65,66]. In our opinion the best way of tackling this question is to confront precise HQE-based predictions with precise experimental data.…”

“…A similar idea was recently proposed in the description of the decays B + → D * + s γ and B + → D * + γ [4]. There the transition was assumed to be dominated by the lowest poles (B * and D s or D) and was given in terms of the amplitude for BB mixing and the probability rate for D * → Dγ.…”

“…3 For example, a = 1/2 in the 't Hooft model in the case of decays of a heavy meson into light mesons [19,20]. 4 The τ decay data in this context was also used in [22] for a test of duality in nonleptonic B decays.…”
