Mg24(C

Abstract

The 24Mg('sC, av~) 3 S reaction has been investigated in the energy range E~,b =24 -36MeV. Excitation curves taken at forward (0') and backward (173') angles show striking dissimilarities in both the ao and a~channels. Complete angular distributions in the ao channel taken at selected energies do not resemble the square of a single Legendre polynomial over the full angular range. It is concluded that previous spin assignments to suggested isolated resonances using this reaction cannot be substantiated. NUCLEAR REACTIONSMg(' C,a) S, E&ab --24 -36 MeV, meas: ared cr(E, S) = 0, 8 = 173', o(8) at selected energies.
