(d,He3) Reactions on the Even Zirconium Isotopes

Abstract: An investigation of the proton ground-state configurations in the even zirconium isotopes (A = 90, 92, 94, 96) was undertaken using the (d, 3 He) reaction at a deuteron energy of 34.4 MeV. The experimental angular distributions were compared with distorted-wave calculations in the finite-range approximation which include nonlocality in the distorted waves. The residual yttrium isotopes (A =89, 91, 93, 95) have £~* ground states, and the observed spectra can be interpreted in terms of a simple shell-model pi… Show more

“…The ground states of the 9o, 92, 94Zr isotopes have been determined to be a mixture of ~(2p 1/2) 2 and ~(1 g9/2) 2 (see Ref. 23 and the references quoted there) and the 0 +' states are mainly the orthogonal combinations of the ground state pro-ton configurations [24,25]. It seems reasonable to assume that the low-lying 0 +' states in 7~ and 72,748e have a neutron structure similar to the proton structure in the zirconium isotopes, as has also been suggested by Hadermann and Rester [20].…”

“…As a result, states with relatively low spins are known in this nucleus. In a similar way, low-spin levels in the 93 Y nucleus were studied using β decay [10] and isomeric transition (IT) decay [11], as well as by transfer reactions with light projectiles (d, 3 He) [12] and (p, α) [13] (see also the ENSDF evaluation [14]). The results of the present experiments complement the existing data with information on medium-high spin levels.…”

“…The 91 Y nucleus has been studied before only in β decay [1] and light-particle-induced transfer reactions: (t, p) [2], (d, 3 He) and (t, α) [3], and (p, α) [4]. Thus, only relatively low-spin states are known in this nucleus (see the adopted level scheme in Ref.…”
