βdecay of78Sr

Abstract: The γ rays and conversion electrons emitted in the β decay of 78 Sr to levels in 78 Rb have been studied using Ge detectors and a mini-orange spectrometer. A reliable level scheme based on the results of these experiments has been established. The properties of the levels in 78 Rb have been compared with calculations based on deformed Hartree-Fock with Skyrme interactions and pairing correlations in the BCS approximation. This has allowed an interpretation of the nature of the observed sets of levels in the od… Show more

“…91 Rb lies in a transitional region characterized by shape changes [17]. For that reason it is also worth exploring the possibility of inferring its ground-state shape from a comparison of the deduced β strength in the daughter with theoretical calculations, as was already performed for nuclei in the A ∼ 80 and A ∼ 190 regions [18][19][20][21][22]. 86 Br decay is also of particular interest from the perspective of total absorption measurements.…”

“…The main conclusion is that the ground state of 78 Rb is also prolate. The arguments can be found in [37,58]. If one looks at these two publications one can find a number of conclusions about the structure of this odd-odd nucleus.…”
