“…Usually patients with uterine sarcomas are diagnosed at older ages, mean age of our patients was 53.4 (18-80 years) and our MMMT group was older (mean age 61.4). In other studies, similar findings have been reported (Ali & Wells, 1993;Sartori et al, 1997;Park et al, 2008;Benito et al, 2009). Most frequent symptom at presentation was abnormal vaginal bleeding like some other studies (Chavenic et al, 1999;Tsikouras et al, 2008;Benito et al, 2009;D'Angelo & Prat, 2010).…”

“…Addition of lympadenectomy to this procedure is indicated for MMMT group, because of high incidence of lymph node metastasis which was reported as 15-21% (Ali & Wells, 1993;Sartori et al, 1997;Menczer et al, 2005;Temkin et al, 2007;Gaducci et al, 2008). For localized leiomyosarcoma, the incidence of involvement of lymph node is rare, therefore lympadenectomy is not recommended (Gaducci et al, 2008).…”

“…First of all, the histological type was not a pure adenocarcinoma. Histological examination of the resected uterus showed mesodermal mixed tumor, a tumor that contains both epithelial and several stromal elements, that was recently reviewed by Ali and Wells [12]. A variety of terminologies have been applied to this type of tumor.…”

“…An interesting aspect of the reported case is that only the sarcomatous component was found in the epidural metastasis. Previous reports have pointed out that the pattern of metastasis and the response to chemotherapy in mixed mesodermal tumors of the uterus may be different for the two components (epithelial and stromal) [1], Weakness of the lower extremities and loss of sphincter control are the classical signs of cord compression, and should alert the clinicians to perform emergency myelog raphy. Treatment of patients with spinal cord compres sion secondary to metastatic tumors has generally in cluded high-dose steroid followed by decompressive lami nectomy or radiation therapy.…”

“…It is a rare disease, accounting for fewer than 1% of all uterine malignancies [1], Uterine sarcomas are associated with a high probability of initial extrauterine spread [2]; however, information in the literature about the inci dence of métastasés to distant sites, such as lung, liver, bone, brain and kidney, is limited [3,4], Generally, the incidence of central nervous system métastasés from sar comas is considered low [5], and to our knowledge only 1 case of cerebral metastasis from mixed miillerian tumor This article is also accessible online at: http://www.kargcr.ch http://BioMcdNet.com/karger of the uterus has been reported in detail in the English literature [6]. We report the clinical features of a patient with malig nant mixed miillerian tumor of the uterus who developed early spinal cord compression by epidural metastasis, and multiple brain metastases.…”
