“…Although a control group is not present in our group of patients, there is a tendency to decreased infusion requirements in patients with DMD when compared to normal children (Alifimoff & Goudsouzian 1989;Brandom, .Sarner & Woelfel 1990). The infusion requirements did not seem to correlate with our preoperative assessment of the patient's physical status and strength.…”

“…The ED95 in children during halothane anaesthesia is approximately 0.1 mg-kg-l. Twice this dose (0.2 mg-kg-') will produce complete twitch suppression in 1.8 min with recovery to 25 and 95% of control in 11 and 19 min respectively. The recovery index (2575%) is 4 min (Goudsouzian et al 198913;Brandom et al 1990). The short duration of action is partly attributed to its hydrolysis by plasma cholinesterase, although this is not the only degradation pathway.…”

“…A most interesting observation in this regard is that the recovery of the twitch response is virtually the same following either a single bolus dose or a lengthy infusion. Children recover from 595% of control twitch in about 15 min, irrespective of the dose or mode of administration (Alifimoff & Goudsouzian 1989;Brandom et al 1990).…”

“…On the basis of the known pharmacokinetic information of the isomers of mivacurium, there is the possibility of accumulation of the cis-cis isomer (t l/2 =55 min versus 2 min for cis-trans and trans-trans) [3] which could lead to residual blockade. The transtrans and cis-trans isomers possess similar neuromuscular blocking potencies [8][9][10]. The neuromuscular blocking potency of the cis-cis isomer has not been established in humans, but data suggests that this isomer produces minimal (less than 5%) block [3].…”
