“…4 Hamush et al showed beneficial effect of adjunct intraoperative mitomycin c in corrective posterior punctectomy. In this study 5 of 26 (19.2%) eyes had complete anatomic obstruction and scarring of their puncta after punctoplasty surgery without mitomycin c, compared with 0 of 25 (0.0%) eyes in group with adjunct mitomycin c. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.02). 5 In our study the results are comparable with this study.…”

“…They have suggested that because of the accommodative effort and lack of capsular support and fibrosis, the IOLs dislocated anteriorly. 2 We feel the similarity ends with sulcus fixation in one eye and in the bag fixation in the other eye in our patient. As can be seen in Figure 1 1 the haptic, though bent, is covered by sufficient anterior capsule and good capsular-IOL attachments can be expected 14 and 9 years after cataract surgery as in our patient.…”

“…Interestingly, there was no statistical difference between our anatomical success rate and that reported for the wedge punctoplasty4 (p = 1.0, Fisher’s exact test) and for punctoplasty combined with stenting2 (p = 0.4) or the use of mitomycin C3 (p = 0.4), indicating that the use of more complex procedures confers no advantage over a simple punctoplasty operation alone.…”

“…Despite this, there is continued debate over the most effective surgical technique, and some advocate approaches that go beyond a simple punctoplasty procedure with the use of punctal plugs,1 stenting,2 mitomycin C,3 punches4 and total punctal excision with microscopic externalisation of the vertical canaliculus 5. Literature on the outcome of isolated punctoplasty surgery is limited, and in reviewing a large series of cases we aimed to evaluate not only overall success but also factors that might lead to an improved surgical outcome.…”
