Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase and Substrate Identification in Plant Growth and Development

Abstract: Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) form tightly controlled signaling cascades that play essential roles in plant growth, development, and defense response. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying MAPK cascades are still very elusive, largely because of our poor understanding of how they relay the signals. “…More specifically, MPK1, MPK3, MPK4, MPK9, MPK16, MAPKKK4, MAPKKK5, MAPKKK14, MAPKKK17, MAPKKK18 and MAPKKK21 exhibited differential expression patterns in WT‐GmMKK2 and/or KD‐GmMKK2 samples under infected or non‐infected conditions. This finding suggests that MAPKs form complex and highly interconnected signalling cascades, most probably due to their multifaceted nature of activation, regulation and function in various aspects of plant development as well as biotic and abiotic stresses (Bigeard & Hirt, 2018 ; Jiang et al., 2022 ).
