Mitochondrial DNA Polymorphism in Russians from West Siberia

Abstract: The mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) of 60 Russians from West Siberia was analyzed with the following restriction enzymes: BamHI, HindlII, PstI, PvuII and Sad that recognize 6 bp. The observed restriction fragment length polymorphisms (morphs) were classified into 13 types of distinct cleavage patterns (mito-types). The distributions of the mtDNA morphs were compared with those characteristic of some other human populations.
