Mitigation of Flooding Disruption Attacks in Hierarchical OLSR Networks

Abstract: HAL is a multi-disciplinary open access archive for the deposit and dissemination of scientific research documents, whether they are published or not. The documents may come from teaching and research institutions in France or abroad, or from public or private research centers. L'archive ouverte pluridisciplinaire HAL, est destinée au dépôt et à la diffusion de documents scientifiques de niveau recherche, publiés ou non, émanant des établissements d'enseignement et de recherche français ou étrangers, des labor… Show more

“…OLSR-EA is able to prolong network lifetime and save total energy in MANET scenarios with a variety of traffic loads, node mobilities, and both homogeneous and heterogeneous power consumptions among the nodes. Cervera et al [35] presented taxonomy of flooding disruption attacks that affect the topology map acquisition process in Hierarchical OLSR (HOLSR) network, and preventive mechanisms to mitigate the effect of this kind of attack. According to their work, it is possible to mitigate the effect of flooding disruption attack by selecting MPR set with additional coverage or generating control traffic with redundant information.…”

“…As a second contribution, we present the effect of flooding disruption attacks in HOLSR networks [24]. HOLSR uses TC messages for intra-cluster communications and imple ments Hierarchical TC (HTC) messages for inter-cluster communications.…”

“…In this section, we review vulnerabilities in OLSR and proposed countermeasures. Ac cording to Herberg and Clausen [31], in OLSR every node must acquire and maintain a routing [24]. messages (i.e., TC, MID or HNA) can be tunneled.…”
