Abstract:The autograph album of Elizabeth F. Ellet, a nineteenth-century writer and one of Poe’s vindictive enemies, reemerged in the fall of 2015. A significant Poe-related letter, written by Frances S. Osgood, probably on June 19, 1846, was discovered in this album. This letter discusses the scandal surrounding Poe and Mrs. Osgood. The purpose of this article is to place the content of this letter before the community of Poe scholars, and to further explore its relevance for Poe scholarship.
