The use of Proton-Exchange Membranes Fuel Cells is presented as a key alternative to face the increasing and concerning problems related to global warming. The international expansion of green policies, has resulted in the need of ensuring their quality and reliability performance. Although fuel cells can get to play a significant role, this technology is still under development, paying special attention to the problems related to gas starvation and degradation. In this context, the present work deals with the virtual sensor implementation of one of the voltage cells present in a stack, whose operation is subjected to several degradation cycles. The proposal predicts indirectly the voltage of one cell from the current state of the rest of the cells by means of an intelligent model.

Students who are unable to complete an assessment due to circumstances beyond their control (e.g. illness) are often asked to submit a request for special consideration. However, few studies have looked at the reasons why these requests are made, or whether certain students are more likely to submit requests than others. The current study looked at 2126 such requests submitted by 461 students over one academic year and compared students who submitted requests with those who did not on several variables, including gender, full-time/part-time status and undergraduate/postgraduate courses. Distribution of these requests by type (e.g. physical health, bereavement) was examined, in addition to how many students submitted more than one request. The study found that around one-quarter of students submitted requests, with more than half of these related to mental or physical health issues. Full-time students were more likely to submit requests than part-time students although few other demographic differences emerged. The results suggest that some groups may be unevenly affected by special circumstances related to assessment although further work is needed to inform policies regarding special consideration.

La enfermedad del coronavirus (COVID-19) ha provocado una grave crisis de salud con consecuencias socio-económicas sin precedentes. Desde la declaración de pandemia por parte de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, la mayoría de los gobiernos aplicaron políticas de control como el confinamiento, la restriccón de la movilidad, el distanciamiento social, etc. En este contexto, adaptar la planificación educativa a ese escenario conlleva un gran desafío para la comunidad educativa global. Además, dado que las prácticas presenciales de laboratorio en la educación superior fueron canceladas temporalmente, la creación de escenarios virtuales realistas mediante modernas aplicaciones software representa una alternativa interesante y necesaria. Este enfoque práctico se puede lograr mediante el uso de dos herramientas de software interesantes, como Node-RED y Factory I/O. En este trabajo se propone la implementación de una planta de laboratorio virtual utilizando las herramientas mencionadas anteriormente, con características muy similares a las plantas de laboratorio reales de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de A Coruña.
