Mismatch between Sites of Incidence of Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest and Locations of Installed Automated External Defibrillator in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area

Abstract: Background: Since 2004, the number of installed Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has been increased in Japan annually, the cumulative number of sold AED more than 600,000 units by 2016. Despite there have been about 130,000 out of hospital cardiac arrest annually, there have only 1302 cases delivered defibrillation by bystanders at the scene. Therefore, we investigate that number of AED installation and usage rate for Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) patients. Methods: Retrospective metropolitan wid… Show more

“…We found a decreased delay defibrillation with the raise of AED allocations. According to American Heart Association (AHA) 2015 guidelines, it is desiderable to install AED in locations where OHCA is more frequent [31][32]. In our study, we determined also the number of delivered defibrillation shocks during the first 30 age, gender and delay, is surprising.…”

As you can see, China's current AED delivery is relatively inadequate, the gap with developed countries is large.…”

“…Due to its importance to human well-being and health, the study on spatial location of AEDs has become a research hotspot in geography, urban planning, emergency medicine, and other specialties [21][22][23][24][25][26][27]. The relevant literature mainly focused on spatial distribution, accessibility, and spatial optimization layout.…”
