Miscible Organic Solvents Soak Bonding Method Use in a PMMA Multilayer Microfluidic Device

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, we proposed a novel bonding technology to fabricate a microfluidic device based on Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). The method, which used chloroform and ethanol as miscible bonding solvent, can complete complex structures rapid assembly (10 min) at 40°C. A bonding strength of 267.5 N/cm 2 can be achieved, while the micro channel deformation was less than 7.26%. Then we utilized this method to produce a three layers micro mixer, which included a T-shaped inlet channel and six H-shaped … Show more

“…The two PMMA layers were adhered using chloroform glue 39 . Small volumes (5.0  μ l) of chloroform were dropped into the corners of the device between the top and bottom layers and aligned using an optical microscope, before evaporation of the chloroform, i.e., within 30 s. Adding more than 10  μ l chloroform or adding chloroform near the channels resulted in clogging of the channels.…”

“…The microstructure was formed on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with an ultra-precision engraving machine; the electrodes leads were welded and fitted to the cover sheet. The electrodes were bonded to the PMMA via organic solvent immersion [ 19 ]. The gold drive electrode was welded to the PCB, and the PMMA middle layer was bonded to the PCB using modified acrylic adhesive.…”
