For a DMPC lipid monolayer with added 1-dodecanol, a decrease in the molar volume of the alcohol was observed when comparing the pure state of the alkanols to the state when in the membrane. “…Even though these are shorter chains than the DOPC studied here, the fluidity is similar. The interaction of hexadecanol with eggPC (a mixture of lipids with either one or two unsaturated alkyl tails; in DOPC, both tails have one double bond) 52 showed that the compounds were partially miscible and can induce a phase change in eggPC from an expanded (LE) to a condensed (LC) phase. The creation of these higher (thicker) regions after the incorporation of DOPC into the octadecanol adsorbed layer may be explained by the formation of a mixed layer in these regions in which the DOPC is partially miscible.…”
